Canada has blocked an investigation into Alberta’s tailings ponds by NAFTA’s environmental watchdog.
.
“It shows that the Canadian government is willing to circumvent institutions that make sure Canada upholds environmental laws.”
.
It’s the third time in a year Canada has successfully stopped NAFTA’s scrutiny of its environmental behaviour.
.
Two environmental groups and three private citizens had asked the commission to investigate whether tailings ponds were leaking into nearby rivers and creeks in northern Alberta.
.
In 2014, with Mexico’s support, it stopped investigations into polar bear protection and B.C. salmon farms.

And “Canada, the oil sands’ poor image isn’t just a question of bad PR. Anti-oil sands sentiment has made it nearly impossible to build the necessary pipeline connections producers need to get all that oil to market. TransCanada Corp.’s crossborder Keystone XL pipeline is in danger of being axed by U.S. President Barack Obama. The industry’s backup plan, Enbridge Inc.’s Northern Gateway pipeline to shipping terminals on the B.C. coast, has become bogged down in political and environmental controversy. Even TransCanada’s Energy East proposal, a sort of backup for the backup, has encountered unexpected political resistance in Ontario and Quebec—two provinces the diluted bitumen must transit through on its way to refineries in New Brunswick.”
.
SADLY ECONOMICS DO CONTROL THE VIABILITY OF CANADA’S OIL SANDS PROJECTS. Economics alone SHOULD NOT now control the direct oil sand extraction process, engineering as well and also now not all firms are equally environmentally conscious, concerned so they all do now need to be better managed here, something that has falsely not been adequately done for sure so far.. and yes neither by the provincial or the federal governments HAVE DONE A GOOD JOB HERE. GREED AND PROFIT CANNOT BE ALLOWED TO OVER RULE SAFETY, THE ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES, etc

where to date Acanac has lied, abused me, not provided their promised internet services. Well?
Here is just some of what others have also said about them that reflect my dealings with them too.
.
“Absolutely horrible customer service, they are there to take your money and not provide any support at all. “ ” Speed is not stable and tech support is very slow. I’ve used Acanac for more than 5 years, rarely have issue with them but once there’s one, it takes weeks to resolve it. very disappointing.” “ STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!!!! This is the worse service I have ever been given in my life.” “ But the customer service is really disappointing. “ “. Speed has been on the slow to very slow side and I have had my connection lost completely 3 times. “ “ I used this service for almost 3 years, and wana say that Acanac service becomes the worse and worse, so I cancelled my contract with it. Reasons: 1. Low speed, 2.I didn’t have the entrance to the Internet during several hours almost every day for the last half year. 3. When I tried to reach their technical support service it was a real headache for me. I think they simply ignored my request, but they answering me immediately when I sent the cancelation notice to them. I have to state that Acanac doesn’t care about it’s customers. “ “ -Service was good, until your service slows or or stops working and you have to reach out for help. “ “ Finally get useless support email 16 hours after sending in my ticket suggesting I check the cable to the demarc etc etc. Issues continued for a week, customer service never improved. “ “ absolutely terrible customer service. “ “ Acanac has made my life a living hell. Telephone wait times are 45-50 minutes if it is your lucky day or no one answers. Even if someone answers you will quickly realise the guy has no clue or has no inclination to help you. Once the guy was dumb enough to ask me “why did you not send us an email?” Duh!!! I do not have internet?!!! SO PLEASE, PLEASE BE WITHOUT AN INTERNET THAN SIGNING UP WITH THIS COMPANY. THEY ARE HORRIBLE. “ “ However, when you need technical support, you could be put on the phone waiting for hours.. “ Much is promised when inquiring by their sales people, however tech support is non-existent. DO NOT USE UNLESS YOU ENJOY SUFFERING. Tech response is hidden behind a very primitive email service. DSL connection speed is no better than dial up. “ “Internet goes down at least 4- 6 times a year. You have to call them to get good customer service. Their email and text service is the worst, specially the email response is just a copy and paste , they don’t even read what your problem is.” “ After 2 years, I have had enough – Never again, and I will make sure I tell as many people as I can to never give this company any business “ http://www.canadianisp.ca/cgi-bin/isp_comment_totals.cgi?f=Comments&ispid=52

Further more a surge of light oil from North Dakota and Texas is cutting into the earnings of Canadians who turn heavy oil sands into a lighter crude that fetches more from refiners. Producers in Alberta, home of the country’s greatest reserves, upgraded 20 percent less of the region’s crude in October than four years earlier, according to the province’s energy regulator. Two of five plants under construction were canceled and the province’s upgrading and refining capacity fell in 2013 for the first time in three decades. Companies are now sending record amounts of the heavy stuff on pipelines and trains to refineries in the U.S. Midwest and Gulf Coast, Projects including Suncor Energy Inc. (SU)’s Voyageur joint venture with France’s Total SA (FP) and Value Creation Inc.’s BA Energy Heartland were abandoned. Global oil prices, down by more than 50 percent since June, will make upgrading projects even more challenging because the price difference between heavy and light crude is narrower, U.S. output has risen 70 percent in the past five years as producers used horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing to tap into previously inaccessible shale rock layers thousands of feet below the Earth’s surface. Most of the increase has been in light, sweet crude, similar quality Alberta upgraders get from processing heavy, thick oil sands. The rising flows south of Canadian crude are drawing a backlash in Alberta from labor groups, who say jobs, not just oil, are being exported. Alberta’s 4.6 percent unemployment rate, second lowest in Canada after Saskatchewan, may increase after oil’s 55 percent drop in six months prompted some producers to curtail future investment. “Building upgraders in Alberta is seen by the industry as uneconomic,” Dinara Millington, a vice president at the Canadian Energy Research Institute, said in an e-mail Jan. 13. “The U.S. refining market is being flooded with the light crude and they wouldn’t necessarily want our light stuff.”

Canadian exporters now also have also been stung by Russia’s currency crisis and its retaliatory sanctions against the West over the crisis in Ukraine. Companies from farm-equipment manufacturers to pork producers are affected. The Russian market bought 563-million dollars worth of Canada’s agricultural exports in 2012 Richard Davies, a vice-president at pork and poultry processor in Caaaanada Olymel, said the fallout from the Ukraine crisis has had a significant effect. Russia has struck back by slapping a ban on meat, seafood, milk and dairy products, fruit and vegetables from Canada, the U.S., the European Union, and other countries. The Russian government has also limited subsidies, particularly to its agricultural sector.

The now-suspended officer has been on the force nearly seven years and was stationed in Swift Current as a general duty constable since 2012, the RCMP said.
“It’s very disheartening that a serving police officer, sworn to uphold the law, is facing criminal charges,” RCMP Supt. Alfredo Bangloy said in a statement. ”
.
“An Ontario Provincial Police officer working out of a detachment in the east region has been charged with criminal harassment. The OPP’s professional standards bureau launched an investigation into the provincial constable in September 2014 after a complaint was filed. The 37-year-old officer was arrested four months later on Jan. 29. He is charged with two counts of criminal harassment and one count of unlawfully being in a dwelling. He is scheduled to appear in court in Renfrew on March 25. The man is a 13-year member of the OPP and is “presently on leave,” OPP said in a media release. His name is not being released in order to protect the identity of the victim.” and if you belive this you are dumb, really dumb..
.
Look the RCMP even had known for years specifics details by wire tapping about the Corruption in the Quebec city halls and they next still did nothing good about it..
.
People in leadership office do have to face higher penalties as an example now too. It is clearly established, accepted fact by most people that those in leadership civil and public servants cops, teachers, ministers, politicians included are always to be exemplary in behavior, conduct and they do need to maintain their high standards even out of their working hours, thus to do so they are also to be exemplary judged, prosecuted for their own wrong doings with a higher standard over those of us ordinary folks.
.
Too many police officers are now too often guilty of their most serious neglect of public trust and their duty. The related truth is that neither an independent police investigation, a new police commissioner, a promised provincial or federal investigation, or just more politicians promises too often still will not bring the much needed justice. All of the governments can prohibit the initial and further employment of any known racists for any jobs, and can punish them for their racists acts, views. Police managers continue to promise the reforming of bad cops and the bad cops keep killing, abusing innocent persons. The possible retraining of bad police officers is always anyway a false myth. What thus is always needed is the real the dismissal, criminal prosecution, of the guilty cops. So where is it? Speeding is not the main cause of car accidents, impaired driving is, but too many cops are alcoholics it seems who wrongfully do sympathize with drunks and as a result do not arrest drunks all year .. https://thenonconformer.wordpress.com/2010/07/18/we-all-do-know-it-is-merely-the-tip-of-a-large-iceberg/

Our public servants, politicians too often do abuse, steal our tax money, eat in fine restaurants, travel abroad at our expense, should rather start to care about the rest of us!

WASHINGTON — President Obama says he wants Americans to view college as they do high school – a necessary step up the education ladder that anyone can take if he or she wants. That’s why he’s proposing an ambitious federal-state partnership to boost tuition assistance for students at public community colleges, he says. “What I’d like to see is the first two years of community college be free for everybody who’s willing to work for it,” Mr. Obama said

The public funding of Quebec universities is a crucial investment for the future of our society, The government’s rapid and resolute cost-cutting exercise is sowing uncertainty, antagonizing the populace and jeopardizing universities’ abilities to fulfill their mission. Nothing at this time justifies such a rigid schedule for achieving a zero deficit. If the government cuts too much too quickly, it will create another deep deficit — an educational deficit — that will affect society for decades. I know the goal is to leave Quebec prosperous for generations to come. To achieve this, we must have healthy universities.

The Finns also see education as a long-term investment, a cost of doing business as an advanced economy. Education is free from daycare to graduate school — not only for Finns, but anyone else who wants an education there. Since many post-secondary programs are in English, this brings in hordes of bright young foreign students. About half of them go home as friends of Finland; the other half stay, settle down, and help build their new country.
Consider another small country that offers free advanced education: Cuba. Since 1999, the Cubans have run the Latin American School of Medicine, perhaps the biggest medical school in the world. It offers free medical training to some 19,500 international students, meeting the standards of the Medical Board of California. Many of its graduates go home to care for poor people in their own countries, and hundreds are now working in West Africa to fight Ebola. In over fifty years of exporting medical aid, the Cubans have not only made money, but earned enormous international good will. Even the Americans, have praised the Cubans’ battles against cholera in Haiti and Ebola in West Africa.

Now to our own surprise, we turned out to be pretty good at teaching immigrants’ children and preparing them for more than hewing wood and drawing water, But not our own kids.. why is that?
.
Recently, the government of Lower Saxony (a German state) decided to abolish tuition fees and make Germany a tuition-free country once again. Free tuition-supporters in this country have noticed this development and are now asking, “Why not Canada?”
It is within this context that the Nova Scotia branch of the Canadian Federation of Students (CFS) published a report in September calling for the elimination of all provincial university tuition fees by 2026.
CFS regional chairperson Anna Dubinski says that student debt hinders the province’s economy by deterring people from attending post-secondary institutions. The CFS argues that abolishing tuition fees would lead to greater participation in post-secondary education at little overall cost to the provincial treasury.
.
During the 2012 student strike movement, then-Fédération étudiante collégiale du Québec president Léo Bureau-Blouin argued in favour of a freeze on university tuition fees. An MNA for the PQ since September 2012, he now calls the government’s indexation of tuition fees a “great compromise” and “a big victory for students.” “I defended a tuition fee freeze when I was a student representative and I still believe this is a great way to increase accessibility to post-secondary education,” he said. http://thelinknewspaper.ca/article/5808
CLASSE, which speaks for 100,000 Quebec students, says free education is entirely achievable and used a march attended by several hundred people on Saturday to highlight the issue. “Our struggle for accessibility to higher education is not yet over,” said Jérémie Bédard-Wien, a spokesman for CLASSE. CLASSE says it wants education to be completely accessible by being entirely free. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/with-quebecs-tuition-hikes-defeated-classe-presses-on-for-free-education/article4561489/
.
Free Medicare, Free education, as with free dental care and free public transit, are really a must.
.
Eliminating tuition fees for university students is an efficient policy idea. Students themselves share in the benefits of higher education through increased lifetime earnings and the citizens next as well though the earned taxes paid. And we’d raise the quality of our own teachers by making their training free as well — if they qualify. And when the Students all do graduate, they shouldn’t have to struggle to pay bills for food, shelter or clothing, and thus will not be a burden to the state.
.
And the Quebec government’s proposal to create a new watchdog to oversee universities and Hospitals now as well is valid, natural.. some of the biggest crooks are even the educated folks.. and our Doctors, Nurses, Hospitals and the Police, RCMP are also now very poorly managed too ALL AT THE TAXPAYER’S EXPENSES.
.
Ironically and hypocritically while the Liberal Quebec Premier Jean Charest faced even still very numerous QUEBEC STUDENT PROTESTS about his plans to RAISE UNIVERSITY EDUCATION COSTS SIGNIFICANTLY and now also faced a new political candidacy, the anti-corruption hero Jacques Duchesneau, who had just announced Sunday he is running for the Coalition Avenir Québec party , yes all while the anti-corruption platform is also still dominating too headlines issue in the Quebec province throughout the early days of this QUEBEC PROVINCIAL ELECTION Campaign, the same JEAN CHAREST HAD NOW ALSO NEXT HAD CLEARLY INDULGED in more corruption by trying to BUY VOTES, when he said, would give $100 per child every year to families with children in public elementary schools. The initiative would begin in 2013 and would cost an estimated $45 million a year, assuming 450,000 eligible children. No money AVAILABLE for university students Jean Charest and his Liberals HAD CLEARLY said before his threat of clearly losing the election ehh.. https://thenonconformer.wordpress.com/2012/08/06/quebec-election-no-money-available-for-university-students/

Alberta is now a province of losers on social welfare now begging the East for help mainly due to the oil downturn, with massive layoffss, firms closing their doors forever, and loads of home prices dropping even foreclosures…. SO IMAGINE THE UNINMAGINEABLE. . The NDP now wins a majority government in Alberta, ending a Progressive Conservative dynasty in power for more than four decades.
Well those socialists, the NDP finally took over from the Conservative, capitalists The election results were the ultimate anti-incumbent protests, rebuke to the past endemic PC scandals and cronyism. with accountability and trust already at a sore point . OBJECTION to a government ruled by a tiny clique .
Liberals and Conservatives tend to be self centered, greedy, materialistic oriented persons. Their universe is usually small. self centered, superficial . Research has indicated that the materialism drive are due to a high neuroticism and low agreeableness. They feel incomplete. That is why they use other people to fill up the inner gap. . They are intolerant of differences. They devalue others and put them at a lesser position. It is hard for self-centered people to have a real sense of empathy. Even if they do, it is usually conditional, depending on what they are receiving from the source they are empathizing with. They expect too much for what they are willing to give. Yes when you go deep inside, their real feeling of inadequacy reveals itself. Don’t buy into their arrogance, don’t feed their excessive sense of self-importance. Don’t be their door mat. Have compassion for them since they falsely have created a wrong type of self-protection mode for them. Beyond the fact of their self-delusion is the related inability to admit to their own basic motivations . Neglect the poor and you will walk in their does next.
Some of the most popular posts were written before 2015 and are popular for years showing the citizen”s same continual concerns and evidence of the useless governments.. These writing have staying power!
Citizens are still also calling for change in local speed traps. I think over the years they have just tacked on additional fines, or put up red light cameras, or doing one thing or another to try and generate revenue for their city. Cities falsely are using traffic citations to fund city government. Some cities it’s upwards of 8% to 10% of their revenue instead of .5 percent is generated by fines and fees. Many cities have used fines and fees to fund a large portion of their budget, police budgets included . Too many Police Department even have an illegal quota system that requires officers to write three traffic tickets per day and make at least one arrest every two days. A quota encourages officers to ticket people regardless of whether motorists’ behaviour is actually endangering the public or could be corrected with a warning. Traffic fines affect the poor and are ineffective against those they are to be really targeting, the rich. Most cops saw their fellow residents less as citizens to protect than as “potential offenders and sources of revenue.” Causing “breakdown of trust” between people, police, governments and courts. Missouri cities can no longer treat their citizens like ATMs, as the state’s governor signed a bill capping how much money local governments can collect from traffic tickets and fines.” For people who have lived in these communities that fear they are going to be pulled over and harassed because that city needs money, that’s going to change,”
