The cons are no better at it… a lack of accountability here too.

Lac-Megantic-CBC

The  Canadian Government  in 1985, enacted the Federal Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act and regulations to “promote the safe transportation” and to Protect Canadians mostly on paper still cause it is too often not enforced.. and why is that acceptable?

Is the railway shipping heavy crude oil from the Alberta oil sands, or highly explosive Balkan oil from North Dakota

The Canada Transportation Agency has extended the operating licence of the insolvent railway involved in last July’s deadly explosion in Lac-Megantic, Que., until June 1. The company has been granted a couple of extensions since July’s explosion and fire that killed 47 people and destroyed part of the tiny Quebec community’s downtown.  Did the Canadian Gov’t bother to look into what the railway is shipping before they extended the licences.

Transport Canada has miserably failed us at many levels and is continuing to show its incompetency by approving this continuation to an Operation that has also demonstrated their lack of planning, training, accountability and has no financial protection, leaving us as Canadian vulnerable and on the hook for any future accidents. What ever happened to government Accountability and protection for the Public.

U.S. transportation officials also now has  rebuked the oil industry Friday for not giving up information regulators say they need to gauge the danger of moving crude by rail, after several accidents highlighted the explosive properties of fuel from the booming oil shale fields on the Northern Plains.
