and how stupid do they really think Montrealers are still now?

Montreal Mayor Applebaum’s critics aren’t buying ‘honest mistakes’
.
The mayor of Montreal   had  flipped  a duplex a decade ago. Mayor Michael Applebaum when he was was a councillor in the CDN-NDG borough at the time,  Applebaum did not declare the real estate transaction as part of his assets. The mayor bought an abandoned duplex in Villeray for $80,000 and resold it four months later for $145,00. Between December 2003 and March 2004 Applebaum, his father and his son renovated the property — without permits.  Applebaum said this week that he did not realize he needed building permits . Given Applebaum was a real estate agent and city councillor, many people are not accepting that statement at face value.
.
Do you really now think that was the only place he skirted the law, showed poor judgment as well? ot is it another sign of his habitual bad habits?
.
“He was a real estate agent at the time and did not know a building permit was required for the work that was done? Either he was a very poor agent or was trying to cheat the system. In either case he does not have the brains to be in the position he is in. He is no better than the one he replaced.”
.
“As an elected official…”Honest Mistakes” like this are suspect. Ignorance of the law is not a defense.”
.
.
“He is obviously not who he says he is!! His dishonestly is starting to show. Before he, or any other candidate, is appointed to be mayor, there should always be an exhaustive investigation and validation if the individual before appointment. “
.
” Applebaum said he bought the Laurentian property under a company name instead of his…I am neither a real-estate broker nor a C.A. but even to me the reason for that is quite clear.  If the property is bought under his name, he cannot deduct many of the expenses whereas if the real-estate is owned by a holding company (Applecart), nearly every expense is deductible…am I right Mr. Applebaum?  “
.
.
”Get rid of this lying mayor when is it enough!!!!”
.
As a real estate agent….not knowing some of these rules for permits seems negligent. Especially since it was clear their intention was to “flip” the duplex for profit.  As an elected official…”Honest Mistakes” like this are suspect. Ignorance of the law is not a defense. Sorry Mr. Applebaum, opening a small business to purchase buildings while a city official and not declaring the business…c’mon, I could figure out those rules. And I have an Arts degree! You might be able to pay for the permits—but I will never fully believe it was a mistake. No trust in him now.”

Ignorance of the law…really? He doesn’t know that excuse can’t be used either? Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.”

Look he was   experienced    and   his ignorance of the law excuse is absurd.. as he bought this property  under a corporation name obviously for profit and tax  deductions, as well to hide his ownership?  and he made a significant  profit here too..
.
It seems too many politicians use their jobs to get preferential treatments, more money for themselves now too and also do claim ignorance next.. McCallion testifies she was unaware of son’s stake in project http://soa.li/O5BuTCS
.
All People in office are held to a higher standard as well now than the ordinary folks.. and no use having unenforced laws.. ignorance of the laws is a lousy excuse still too.
