Well how many the 10,000 persons got a good paying job to be able to pay the high rent, pay for the really high cost of living, high hidden taxes too. Do they also have good doctors, good teachers, good car mechanics, good stores, good restaurants there now too? Or is still a backward place. I saw on the CBC also how a working couple were unable to afford a home, and support 3 children in Calgary. “

The future shows limited positive visibility with few positive market signals as commodities prices fall and growth stalls, the future looks dim, so sell, sell, sell before the lights go out.Tough action by some of the sector’s leading companies is an indication of more pain to come

New numbers are painting an idea of how many Albertans are feeling the effects of the recession. 97,000 people in Alberta were on employment insurance in November. ATB Financial said that’s a record-setting month, if you don’t count July. EI beneficiaries briefly topped 100,000 last summer the first time in a long time that Alberta’s EI beneficiaries as a percentage of the labour force was higher than in the rest of Canada. Year-over-year, the number of Albertans collecting EI climbed nearly 60 per cent.

Albertans are singing the blues. They want cash from the rest of Canada. Now. This is a crisis. How could they have known this might happen? Well, for starters, they might have read some history – and I don’t mean ancient history. The history of oil-based boom and bust cycles in Alberta through the 1970s, the ’80s, the ’90s, into the new century and now the teens. As well, the history of Alberta’s “Rainy Day Fund” being abolished by the Alberta Conservative government in 1987. In 2015 this same Conservative government of Alberta was proudly advertising “Alberta’s Tax Advantage” – no provincial sales tax; no payroll tax; no health care premiums; the lowest provincial taxes on gasoline and diesel; the lowest combined federal/provincial top tax rate in the country; the highest personal tax credit amount. In short, a tax haven right here in Canada. This government boasted, “When the full impact of new tax measures is considered, Alberta’s tax advantage will be at least $8.5 billion.” So Alberta, take your $8.5 billion tax advantage and solve your problems! The rest of Canada has paid its taxes all those years you didn’t – and still aren’t.

The sudden collapse in Oil Prices and subsequent revenue to the Province can’t be magically replaced by sound budget planning. Ostriches in denial would spin like this..in reality History repeats itself.. remember the 1980’s. 2009-10 when Jobs were lost, homes went into foreclosures, property values went down due the flood of homes for sale on the market. divorce increased.. Sadly they in Alberta do not learn not the first, second or the third time. When they were rich, proud and arrogant the Conservative leaders of Alberta were too proud to heed to others, to take advice… but now that they are facing serious ,drastic economic downturn they merely pretend they are ready to listen.. and how long will that next last? Instead of saving , planning effectively for a rain days the politicians of Alberta were living high on the hog, spending the citizens money, and not really caring about the citizens own good welfare. ” The Alberta government didn’t have a plan unless you consider shovelling money out the back door as fast as it came in the front to be a plan. “Making use of the revenues” meant spending the revenues. When times were good it outspent every other province in the country on a per-capita basis. It may have been a Conservative government in name, but its spending was liberal, in every sense of the word. Many Albertans told them to save more, even the Liberals. Various groups, including one of the government’s own creations called the Financial Management Commission, were telling the government as far back as 2002 it had to save more money during the good times. Granted, Ralph Klein was in charge back then and he responded by ratcheting up spending and giving away $1.4 billion in Ralphbucks. To emphasize its pessimistic message, the government is no longer rejecting out of hand the notion of a provincial sales tax ” Alberta the two horse town, Oil and beef, needed to diversify but now is too late.. it’s electrical costs are much too high, and it’s cost of living as well, high cost labour now too… many hidden costly taxes, and add to that the many technical incompetents existing in this province and you got nothing but mostly a bunch of whiners and losers.. But now they can all put their seat belts on it is going to be a rough recession ride, about 15- 20 times worse than what Alberta had experienced in the 80’s too and alot of Albertan homes went into foreclosures. It might be hard for many Canadians, particularly in hard-hit Ontario, to feel much sympathy for this western province. After all, there was a distinct cockiness in the way “The New West” asserted its newfound position of fiscal superiority this decade over Central Canada in particular.” They had often rubbed it all proudly in our face, Alberta’s wealth, it’s importance, no taxes, a great future, and what ever before that.. Because too many Albertans were openly bashing the poor people for decades as well, now they too do have to walk in a poor man’s shoes themselves.. I REMEMBER WHEN MANY ARROGANT ALBERTANS, POLITICIANS USED TO FALSELY BOAST ON THE NET ABOUT THEIR PROSPERITY.. and I would reply they need to be really now more considerate of the poor people and the rest of Canada for they too will ONE DAY be on social aid, EVEN asking other Canadians to help them.. it is funny how reality comes to pass with time even in Alberta.

Alberta’s surprise recession is not much of a surprise to the wise… for false pride still comes before a great fall.. lay off the too many abusive cops, bad city hall employees as well in Alberta and save the money now too. You have to be rather kind, nice to everyone, even the Albertans now too, cause you do not know to whom you will go begging for help next as well.

Alberta is now a province of losers on social welfare now begging the East for help mainly due to the oil downturn, with massive layoffss, firms closing their doors forever, and loads of home prices dropping even foreclosures…. SO IMAGINE THE UNINMAGINEABLE. . The NDP now wins a majority government in Alberta, ending a Progressive Conservative dynasty in power for more than four decades.
Well those socialists, the NDP finally took over from the Conservative, capitalists The election results were the ultimate anti-incumbent protests, rebuke to the past endemic PC scandals and cronyism. with accountability and trust already at a sore point . OBJECTION to a government ruled by a tiny clique .
Liberals and Conservatives tend to be self centered, greedy, materialistic oriented persons. Their universe is usually small. self centered, superficial . Research has indicated that the materialism drive are due to a high neuroticism and low agreeableness. They feel incomplete. That is why they use other people to fill up the inner gap. . They are intolerant of differences. They devalue others and put them at a lesser position. It is hard for self-centered people to have a real sense of empathy. Even if they do, it is usually conditional, depending on what they are receiving from the source they are empathizing with. They expect too much for what they are willing to give. Yes when you go deep inside, their real feeling of inadequacy reveals itself. Don’t buy into their arrogance, don’t feed their excessive sense of self-importance. Don’t be their door mat. Have compassion for them since they falsely have created a wrong type of self-protection mode for them. Beyond the fact of their self-delusion is the related inability to admit to their own basic motivations . Neglect the poor and you will walk in their steps next.

The oppressive Albertan police enforcement of revenue generating speeding tickets enforcement is still basically economically beneficial to a very small, isolated segment of society, the related cops, judges, lawyers, and it is false job security approach for them even in Alberta. While the government of Alberta fails to often still to deal with the still much too many bad managers, bad civil and public servants abusing tax payers money, even stealing, not doing their jobs properly, unnecessarily taking out of town trips and charging it to the job still, Alberta today is putting 15 new sheriffs on the road in Alberta. Alberta for decades, and the police has been falsely preoccupied with putting every person in jail in Calgary, and Edmonton, all of Alberta for speeding, it seems and was another main reasons they spent so much money on building new court facilities in Alberta too… this is even all being done while statistics, experiences confirms that speeding does not kill, or cause the majority of accidents, but only drunk or drug impaired drivers, bad drivers, and road rage cause the majority of the accidents the government still wants to purse now mostly the speeders more aggressively in Alberta.
Citizens are still also calling for change in local speed traps. I think over the years they have just tacked on additional fines, or put up red light cameras, or doing one thing or another to try and generate revenue for their city. Cities falsely are using traffic citations to fund city government. Some cities it’s upwards of 8% to 10% of their revenue instead of .5 percent is generated by fines and fees. Many cities have used fines and fees to fund a large portion of their budget, police budgets included . Too many Police Department even have an illegal quota system that requires officers to write three traffic tickets per day and make at least one arrest every two days. A quota encourages officers to ticket people regardless of whether motorists’ behaviour is actually endangering the public or could be corrected with a warning. Traffic fines affect the poor and are ineffective against those they are to be really targeting, the rich. Most cops saw their fellow residents less as citizens to protect than as “potential offenders and sources of revenue.” Causing “breakdown of trust” between people, police, governments and courts. Cities can no longer treat their citizens like ATMs, needed is a bill capping how much money local governments can collect from traffic tickets and fines.” For people who have lived in these communities that fear they are going to be pulled over and harassed because that city needs money, that needs to change.
