Bell data collection part of ‘disturbing trend’  By making its networks available, Bell Canada has promoted competition in the internet market, but finding a common ground with the smaller ISPs has been difficult. The critics say the idea of a telecommunications firm such as Bell – which is at once an internet service provider, cable TV provider and phone carrier to many of its customers – implementing a similar scheme is part of a trend that will have serious implications for how Canadians’ personal information is used “One thing I’m hearing a lot is the anger that people are already paying for this service. And on top of that they’re going to be sort of spying on you, collecting private and intimate data on you…. It’s like the straw that breaks the camel’s back,” said David Christopher, communications co-ordinator with the non-profit advocacy group OpenMedia.ca, which has received dozens of complaints about Bell’s announcement.the federal privacy commissioner’s office plans to investigate whether the Bell scheme meets federal rules governing how private companies handle customer information.John Lawford, executive director of the Public Interest Advocacy Centre, said Bell’s targeted ad system could also raise concerns at the CRTC. Its regulatory policies direct internet service providers not to use personal information “collected for the purposes of traffic management” for any other reason, and directs them not to disclose personal customer details.A spokesperson for the CRTC said in an email to CBC News that the agency is “aware of the situation and looking into it.”

Google’s Eric Schmidt Says NSA Spying on Data Centers is “Not OK” Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt said that the NSA’s alleged spying on data centers is “outrageous” and that its strategies of pulling hundreds of  millions of records to find a few hundred is “bad public policy” and even  “illegal.” Google has registered complaints with the NSA, President Barack Obama and members of Congress. Reports are floating around that the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) has been spying on Google’s data centers, and the company isn’t happy about it. “It’s really outrageous that the National Security Agency was looking between  the Google data centers, if that’s true,” said Schmidt. “The steps that the  organization was willing to do without good judgment to pursue its mission and  potentially violate people’s privacy, it’s not OK. The Snowden revelations have  assisted us in  understanding that it’s perfectly possible that there are more revelations to come. “The National Security Agency allegedly collected  the phone records of every phone call of 320 million people in order to identify  roughly 300 people who might be a risk. That’s just bad public policy…and  perhaps illegal. There clearly are cases where evil people exist, but you don’t have to violate the privacy of every single citizen of America to find  them.”

“I can tell you that we do not target Canadians at home or abroad in our foreign intelligence activities, nor do we target anyone in Canada. In fact, it’s prohibited by law. Protecting the privacy of Canadians is our most important principle.”  The head of Canada’s electronic eavesdropping agency,  John Forster, chief of the Communications Security Establishment Canada (CSEC),

The former National Security Agency systems analyst, Edward Snowden, said that the mass surveillance programs used by the United States to tap into phone and internet connections around the world are making people less safe. “They hurt our economy. They hurt our country. They limit our ability to speak and think and live and be creative, to have relationships and to associate freely,”  Now the U.S. government was “unwilling to prosecute high officials who lied to Congress and the country on camera, but they’ll stop at nothing to persecute someone who told them the truth.” Snowden said  http://www.miamiherald.com/2013/10/12/3685316/snowden-mass-surveillance-making.html#storylink=cpy

You probably saw on the news that a U.S. government agency has been caught secretly spying on the private communications of millions of people like you – through their cell phones, and through popular online services like Google, Facebook, and Skype .Now, The Globe And Mail is reporting that Canada has its own agency operating in near-total secrecy that appears to be doing the same thing – recklessly collecting and storing our most sensitive private information in giant databases. This is important: We need to know what sensitive private data is being collected and stored, and why. Call on the government to tell us the truth about their reckless online spying program immediately. https://thenonconformer.wordpress.com/2013/06/11/private-data-is-being-collected-and-stored-in-canada-why/

The ongoing  mass surveillance programs used by the cops in Canada  are  really big unacceptable waste of resoorces, manpower, money and still too often abusive,  as there are still much too many bad  cops…  by the way they spy on Canadian citizens as well.. me included for telling the truth about them.. ehh  but I do not care as I have nothing to hide.. but  they have more to lose..  https://thenonconformer.wordpress.com/2011/02/16/for-decades-the-police-have-had-a-file-on-me-and-likley-you-as-well/
