Robert Fulford: Canada’s public broadcaster is an on-air bureaucracy National Post - A generous grant to the CBC in this economic era would be even more politically troublesome than killing it, even if Stephen Harper wanted to be generous. …
and this is the same Conservative National Post willing to take handouts from the Conservative government it supports over the other political parties….
” In contrast with its anglophone sister, Radio-Canada television has never emerged as a popular whipping boy in francophone Canada. Hanging Radio-Canada and the CBC out to dry is one more sign that the Conservatives have given up on Quebec in the next election.” Chantal Hébert

In the past weeks, the Conservatives have: reduced CBC’s budget by $63 million in their spending plan for the coming year – that’s $75 million with inflation, decided that CBC will get no help to weather the recession amid reports that the government plans to bail out private broadcasters, and demanded that CBC fulfill its mandate knowing full well it lacks the resources to do so.
Bailouts for CanWest
“Harper has had at least one face-to-face meeting with CanWest CEO Leonard Asper…”
“The government is looking specifically at how to assist CanWest Global Communications, which is teetering on the edge of bankruptcy”

THE CBC IS AN ESSENTIAL CANADIAN MEDIA WHEREAS THE NATIONAL POST IS NOT.
THE CBC ALSO GIVES FAIR NEWS COVERAGE CANADA WIDE, THE NATIONAL POST DOES NOT.

Subject: New Democrats support the CBC
Thank you contacting my office in support of maintaining the CBC as our national public broadcaster.
Like you, many Canadians have written to express their interest in quality CBC programming and their deep concerns over the slew of changes the Harper government has been trying to make to the CBC. In contrast to this negative government action, New Democrats have fought to strengthen the ability of CBC and Radio Canada to deliver superior programming with demands for secure and adequate funding. We will continue to advance these issues on your behalf. Specifically, NDP Heritage and Culture critic Charlie Angus is a forceful advocate for the CBC and you can find out more about his work at:

Our commitment to Canadian public broadcasting complements our strong support for arts and culture as outlined in our 2008 election platform at:
http://www.ndp.ca/platform/otherpriorities/supportingculture
Some highlights of our plan include:
- Reforming the CRTC to ensure that prime time television in French and in English is written, directed, stars, and is about Canada and Canadians.
- Protecting and properly funding Telefilm and the Canadian Television Fund.
- Maintaining with adequate funding, the Canada Council.
- Introducing income-averaging for artists, modeled directly on long-standing practice in the province of Quebec.
- Providing an annual federal tax exemption of $20,000 for income earned from copyright and residuals income.
- Reversing Mr. Harper’s $45 million cutback to culture.
Please be assured that Canada’s New Democrats understand the value of having public broadcasting and arts initiatives to help promote Canada’s cultural identity both at home and abroad. Feel free to pass along this email to anyone who may be interested. All the best.
Sincerely,
Jack Layton, MP (Toronto-Danforth)
Leader, Canada’s New Democrats

to post my valid complaints against the so called Christian or Christian Conservatives who do like to bully, bash others but hate to look into the9rown mirror daily .
>THE RECORD DOES NOT LIE … OFTEN IT MERELY TWISTS THE TRUTH, DISTORTS IT ..
>KEEP YOU conservative self-righteousness on your own blog…
YES THAT WAS AN INSULT, LIE TOO, ME BEING CALLED A CONSERVATIVE EVEN by him.. EVEN YOU ALL DO KNOW I AM NOT A CONSERVATIVE. that would Be a BIG insult to me.
IT IS JUST AS INSULTING AS CALLING CANADA’S PRIME MINISTER STEPHEN HARPER A CHRISTIAN, WHO UNDENIABLY IS a wolf in sheep clothing, an liar, an abuser, an ungodly person, and GOING TO HELL, HE TOO NEEDS TO GROW UP… Now do all deal with it appropriately cause he and not me is bringing shame to the CONSERVATIVE name and even the the body of Christ.. he Harper clearly lies when he says he advocates peace, he himself promotes hate instead.. he LIKE MANY OTHER CONSERVATIVES needs to first take the beam out of his own eye before he can humbly help others.
Like I have rightfully often said to you the political Conservatives these days are great examples of what the typical phony, no good, lying, abusive, professing Conservative Christians now really are like. Yes often all I get now is continual condemnations, slanders, insults, bad words, and no real love from the conservatives THESE DAYS .. they need to now grow up and act like real Christians.. examine themselves firstly if the fruits of the holy sprit are there.. cause clearly they are not. What they often do accuse me off very likely they are conscious cause these are their own realties.. sad too..
If I was them I would be rightfully ashamed to pretend to be a Christian to others. Now they need to repent and Get a real life in Jesus still.
I do not have to accept any abuses of any kind.. from anyone now too.. anyone. NOT ESPECIALLY FROM PASTORS.
(Mat 18:14 KJV) Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.
(Mat 18:15 KJV) Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.
(Mat 18:16 KJV) But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.
(Mat 18:17 KJV) And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church:
Even nutbars have the right to free speech Globe and Mail - It is spurious for Stephen Harper’s government to ban Mr. Galloway’s entry into Canada on “security” grounds, even if the original recommendation came from the Canadian Border Security Agency. Rejection is also unwise, since it gives Mr. Galloway more attention than if had be been allowed to speak. The decision also offends the principle of free speech, which ought to be defended to the hilt here.…
